The Payables Agent in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is an AI-assisted capability designed to streamline and automate vendor invoice processing. It reduces manual effort, improves accuracy, and accelerates accounts payable workflows by combining document capture, data extraction, and intelligent validation.

What the Payables Agent Does

The Payables Agent assists finance teams by:

Automatically capturing vendor invoices (PDFs, emails, scanned documents)

Extracting invoice data such as vendor, amounts, dates, and line details

Matching invoices against purchase orders and receipts

Flagging discrepancies and exceptions for user review

Preparing invoices for posting and approval

Key Capabilities

AI-driven document recognition
Uses Microsoft AI to read and understand invoice layouts without rigid templates.

PO and non-PO invoice support
Handles both purchase order–based invoices and direct (expense) invoices.

Validation and error detection
Identifies mismatches in quantities, prices, totals, or vendors before posting.

Human-in-the-loop control
Users remain in control—AI suggests, users review and confirm.

Seamless Business Central integration
Works directly within existing purchasing, payables, and approval workflows.

Business Benefits

Faster invoice processing cycles

Reduced data entry and manual errors

Improved AP accuracy and audit readiness

Better scalability for growing finance teams

Important Considerations

The Payables Agent assists, it does not fully replace AP users

Data quality (vendors, items, G/L setup) directly affects accuracy

Best results are achieved when PO processes are well-structured

Business Central Consultant Insight

For Business Central partners and support teams, the Payables Agent is most valuable when:

Clients process high invoice volumes

There is a mix of PO and non-PO invoices

AP teams want productivity gains without heavy customization

It should be positioned as an operational efficiency tool, not a full autonomous AP solution.

Navigating long lists of records can be a challenge, but Business Central makes it easier with its built-in Search functionality. Positioned conveniently at the top of each list page, the search tool lets you quickly filter records and focus on the data you need.

How to Use the Search Tool

Using the search tool is simple and intuitive:
1. Click on the Search icon or press F3 on your keyboard.
2. In the search box, type the text you want to find. You can enter letters, numbers, and symbols.

The search tool scans all fields in your records, matching your input regardless of case (it’s case-insensitive) and locating matches whether they appear at the beginning, middle, or end of a field.

What Can’t Be Searched?
While the search tool is robust, it has some limitations. It won’t match values in::
– Images
– BLOB fields
– FlowFilters
– FlowFields
– Other non-table fields

Legacy Search: Available in versions up to Business Central 2024 Release Wave 1, this older method finds only records with the exact words you type, in the exact order.

Modern Search: Introduced in newer versions, modern search is faster, more flexible, and forgiving about word order.

Now let’s see the demo:

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central has introduced a new feature in the 2023 Wave 1 update, which allows users to drag and drop files directly onto the File Upload dialog.

This new functionality makes it easier and faster for users to upload files, as they no longer need to navigate through file folders to find the file they want to upload. Instead, they can simply drag and drop the file directly onto the dialog, saving valuable time and effort.

This feature is particularly useful for users who frequently upload files, such as invoices or receipts, as it streamlines the process and improves productivity. It also reduces the risk of errors, as users no longer need to manually select files and navigate through file folders.

Overall, this new feature is a welcome addition to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, and will undoubtedly improve the user experience for many users.

We all know, current Shopify connector has limited features, also it is not extensible. Good news is Microsoft has published connector becomes extensible with 2023 wave 1 release.

Let’s see what we can do and the available events.

What Microsoft Says;

Business value

Tailor Shopify Connector to address the specific needs of your business.

Feature details

Shopify Connector has been non-extensible, but we’re changing that. We’re offering a few points of extensibility. We’ll keep the number of points to a minimum so that we can follow the rapid development on the Shopify side without introducing breaking changes.

We’re opening for extensibility for specific scenarios, based on feedback from our partners and customers. Please share your scenarios as comments to the following product suggestion: Allow extensibility of the new Shopify Connector Extension.

Let’s see what Microsoft says in technical perspective.

Let’s take Table 30127 as an example; We can see Access has set as Internal; Microsoft will remove this property with next release.

Snapshot: table 30127 “Shpfy Product”

So, what we need to do, add the dependencies and extend the tables, pages

Snapshot: dependency

Not only the tables and pages, Microsoft is planning to provide access to Events. You may find this information from Objects expected to become public

Few examples of extensibility can find here; Extensibility Example

But extensibility might be limited, so we all can submit improvements directly through https://aka.ms/bcideas

What you think? 🙂 That’s all for now, Readers! Keep an eye out for my next post.
